India

I traveled by bus from Nepal to India. This is a journey that I probably will never take again, as I felt that my life was in danger, to say the least. Let’s just say that the safety regulations on the buses that run between Nepal and India are a bit different from what we are used to in Denmark. And pictures of several crashed buses posted at every station did nothing to calm my nerves.

Varanasi, India is a beautiful city where I relaxed for a month to absorb the Indian culture. The visa in India is valid for a whole 12 months after arrival, so from the beginning, I thought and acted differently than I had done in other countries. One of my favorite phrases from India is “no stress.”

In India, I wanted to buy a motorcycle so I could fulfill my dream of riding through India, and I quickly discovered that New Delhi was the place to do it, so I took the train there. I bought an old Royal Enfield in Delhi, had it refurbished at a motorcycle workshop, and then headed north and then all the way west through the Rajasthan desert to Jaisalmer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaisalmer). Here, I went on a week-long camel safari, experiencing what it’s like to sleep in the desert, and then I traveled inland to a cozy town called Purna. By this point, I had been traveling for over 18 months and covered 19,000 kilometers on a motorcycle alone. I then traveled to Mumbai, where I caught a train to Delhi and then a flight back to Denmark.

Here are some pictures from my trip to India:
